HERACLES
Heracles, son of Zeus, was the ultimate hero and symbol of bravery. As an infant, he strangled the snakes sent by vengeful Hera with bare hands. Later, he killed his children in a fit of rage. As atonement to this sin, controlling his extreme character, he fought victoriously against mythical beasts and completed the Twelve Labors. Pattern inspired by the statue of Heracles, 68-98 AD, the Metropolitan Museum, New York.
